On the afternoon of February 25, 2020, Governor Le Minh Hung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Robert Kaproth, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Asia, the United States Department of the Treasury (USDT).
The meeting took place in the spirit of openness and goodwill. At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung briefed the guests of Vietnam’s macro-economic situations and explained the Government’s and the SBV’s viewpoint of the management of the monetary policy and the exchange rates, which is aimed to control the inflation and stabilize the macro-economy. The SBV Governor emphasized that Vietnam does not use the exchange rate policy to gain an unfair commercial advantage.
Also at the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung shared that the Government of Vietnam and the Prime Minister have paid much attention and have directed to promote the comprehensive cooperation relations between Vietnam and the United States, with specific guidance for the ministries and agencies to address the issues of concerns of both sides, aiming towards a harmonious and sustainable bilateral trade balance.
Governor Le Minh asserted that the Government of Vietnam and the SBV always treasure the cooperative relations with the U.S., and have high evaluation for the cooperation and exchanges of macro-economic policies between the two countries. He also shared that the Government of Vietnam and the SBV hope to continue the information exchanges and the policy dialogues so that the U.S. can have a correct and objective assessment of Vietnam’s macro-economic developments and the management of the monetary policy.
