Governor Nguyen Van Binh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Tony Blair, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) in Hanoi on October 19 on his occasion of working visit to Vietnam as President of the Office of Tony Blair.
At the meeting, SBV Governor Nguyen Van Binh expressed his sincere thanks the Office of Tony Blair for supporting Vietnamese Government and the SBV over the past time through specific and effective consultancy in the strategic fields of attracting foreign investment, framework for public-private partnerships (PPP), the reform of the state owned enterprises… At the same time, he hoped for further cooperation in various fields in the coming time. Moreover, Governor Nguyen Van Binh highly appreciated the Office of Tony Blair’s acceptance of the invitation from the SBV to give a presentation at the seminar with theme of “Vietnam becomes world’s new manufacturing centre after 2015”.
For his part, Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair highly appreciated the positive results of macroeconomic stability, economic reforms, especially the banking sector reforms. At the same time, he expressed his belief in economic prosperity of Vietnam in the context of Vietnam’s participation in FTA, TPP, EVFTA…. He emphasized the importance of the enhancement of economic restructuring, especially in the financial and banking sector in order to set a foundation for economic development in 2016 – 2020 period.
In addition, the two sides agreed to continue closely cooperate with each other to share experience, economic restructuring and international integration; consult in developing financial markets; strengthen the capacity of getting access to bank loans of SMEs, continue restructuring commercial banks, enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam in the region.
