Hanoi, October 31, 2025 – On behalf of the Government of Japan, Ambassador ITO Naoki conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, upon Mr. Nguyen Van Giau, former Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and former Chairman of the Economic Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam, at a ceremony held at the Ambassador’s residence in Hanoi on October 31, 2025 evening.
This prestigious decoration honors Mr. Giau’s outstanding contributions to fostering the parliamentary, economic, and diplomatic cooperation ties between the two countries.

The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Vu Hai Ha, Member of the Party’s Central Executive Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Canh, Deputy Governor of the SBV; together with representatives of the SBV’s Party Committee, the SBV Office, the International Cooperation Department, and other relevant agencies.
In his remarks, Ambassador ITO Naoki expressed his great honor in presenting the award on behalf of the Japanese Government, praising Mr. Nguyen Van Giau as a statesman who has made significant and enduring contributions to consolidating and advancing the comprehensive cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Giau conveyed his deep gratitude to the Government of Japan for the distinguished honor, and extended his heartfelt thanks to the Party and the State of Vietnam for their trust and support throughout his career. He shared that over more than two decades working in the financial and banking sector, and later at the National Assembly, he had cultivated many profound and lasting ties with Japanese counterparts.
“This decoration is not only a personal honor, but also a recognition of our collective efforts, and a symbol of the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Japan,” he said. Mr. Giau also extended his congratulations to Japan on the election of its first-ever female Prime Minister, expressing his confidence that the Land of the Rising Sun would continue to prosper and contribute actively to the global peace and prosperity.
