On April 16, 2018, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh and Ms Kate Reekie, Counselor, Head of Development Assistance, Embassy of Canada to Vietnam, co-chaired a steering meeting for the Banking Regulation and Supervision Support (BRASS) Project, which is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
Also attending the meeting were senior leaders from the SBV Banking Supervision Agency and representatives from the SBV relevant departments and agencies participating in the Project Management Unit. On the Canadian side, there were officers in charge of development assistance at the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam and the Canada-contracted Project Implementing Agency.
The meeting was aimed at reviewing the activities of the project in the period of April 2017 to March 2018 and reaching an agreement on the implementation plan for the next fiscal year. On the basis of the reports of the Project Implementing Agency and the Banking Supervision Agency, which is the direct beneficiary of the Project, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh and Ms Kate Reekie praised the efforts of both sides in the implementation of the activities in accordance with the approved plans and their close coordination in order to promptly settle arising problems. Therefore, the activities of the project in the period of April 2017 to March 2018 have been basically completed, accelerating the progress of implementing the overall components of the project. The two co-chairs agreed to approve the draft plan for the project implementation in the following year, which was formulated by the Project Implementing Agency on the basis of the needs for support from the SBV.
In conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh also directed the Project Implementing Agency, the Banking Supervision Agency and the members of the Project Management Unit to continue the close coordination to ensure the effective implementation of the approved plan, formulate plans for training the core personnel for risk-based supervision, which have been developed within the framework of the project, and arrange the handovers of the Project outputs to ensure the sustainability of the project after its termination.
On this occasion, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh, on behalf of the SBV Management Board, expressed his sincere thanks for the support from the Global Affairs Canada, the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam through the Banking Regulation and Supervision Support Project for the SBV, as well as the Project of Strengthening the People’s Credit Funds network (STEP) for the Cooperative Bank of Vietnam (CBV).
