The Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) attended the 50th Annual Meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held in Yokohama, Japan. The ADB’s 50th Annual Meeting was officially launched on May 6, 2017.
At the meeting with ADB President Takehiko Nakao, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong congratulated the ADB President on successfully organizing the ADB’s 50th Annual Meeting and relevant events. She expressed her high consensus on priorities in ADB’s 2030 Strategy for sustainable development and her commitment on closely cooperating with the ADB to implement successfully objectives of the Country Partnership Strategy, 2016–2020 of the ADB for Viet Nam. Moreover, she highly appreciated the ADB’s financial support, policy advice, and technical assistance for Vietnam, while emphasizing the determination of the Vietnamese Government in efficiently utilizing ADB’s financial resources for development in Vietnam. She also stated Vietnamese Government will determine to achieve the objectives of stabilizing macro-economy, curbing inflation and proactively restructuring the economy for the sustainable development.
For his part, the ADB President spoke highly of and supported Vietnam for continuing to restructure the economy and key sectors in order to maintain high GDP growth rate and macro-economic stability. He said that Vietnam should continue pursuing objectives of stabilizing macro-economy, further enhancing the process of restructuring the economy, especially the state – owned enterprises, and developing private sector to maintain and strengthen motivations of dynamic and sustainable development.
Under the framework of the ADB Annual Meeting, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had meetings with ADB large stakeholders like Japan, U.S.A, England, Germany, France, Australia, Canada and South Korea. At the meetings, she expressed her sincere thanks to those countries for supporting Vietnam’s economic development. She also briefed the guests of Vietnam’s achievements, capital demand and challenges in the process of restructuring the economy, reducing poverty and preventing climate changes. She hoped that the ADB President and ADB large stakeholders would continue providing concessional resources to Vietnam after 2018 (when Vietnam will graduate from the ADF).
The ADB President and leaders of delegations acknowledged Vietnam’s capital demand and challenges and committed to consider the situation of Vietnam and the preparation of Vietnam for its graduation from the ADF in order to take appropriate supporting mechanism.
Taking the opportunity of the ADB Annual Meeting, the SBV Deputy Governor attended the 20th ASEAN + 3 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meeting in May 5, 2017.
