According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.59% in September 2017 against the previous month, by 1.83% as compared to that of December 2016 and rose by YoY of 3.4%.

The prices in September of 9 out of 11 groups of commodities increased as compared to August. Specifically, the price of the group of education registered the highest increase of 5% (with prices of education services up by 5.74%) because in the previous month, 41 provinces and cities under the central government increased tuition fees. Price hikes were also recorded in other groups namely transportation went up by 1.51%; housing and construction materials by 0.69%; medicines and health services by 0.25% (in which, prices of health services up by 0.31%). The prices of the group of commodities and other services rose by 0.11%; family equipment and appliances were up by 1% while the prices of group of food and catering services prices were up by 0.08% (with grain food prices and foodstuff prices increased by 0.14% and 0.06% respectively); the prices of group of Garments, textiles, hats and footwear increased by 0.05% and lastly the prices of groups of beverage and cigarette slightly rose by 0.02% in comparison with August 2017.
The prices of the two groups decreased in September, particularly, the culture, entertainment and tourism declined by 0.08% and postal services were down by 0.04% as compared to that of August 2017.
Core inflation in September 2017 increased by 0.08% as compared to that of previous month and rose by YoY of 1.32%. Average core inflation for 9 months rose 1.45% from the same period of 2016.
The gold price of September was up by 2.61% in comparison with August, 2017; rose by 6.12% as compared to that of December 2016; increased by YoY of 0.55%. USD appreciated by 0.03% against VND as compared to that of previous month; depreciated by 0.03% in comparison with December 2016 and increased by 1.78% as compared to the same period of 2016.
