On March 25, 2019 in Hanoi, Governor Le Minh Hung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Alfred F. Kelly Jr, Chief Executive Officer of Visa Inc.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed Visa Inc. delegation to visit and work with the SBV and expressed his belief that this working visit would contribute to enhancing and further developing the cooperative relations between the SBV and Visa Inc. in the coming time. The SBV Governor also thanked and expressed high appreciation for Visa’s collaboration and support for the development of Vietnam’s payment system. At the same time, the Governor also hoped that Visa Inc. would continue to cooperate with Vietnam to promote strongly the e-payment systems, in order to limit cash payments in the economy, and to strengthen the accessibility to financial services, especially among the poor and women in remote areas.

For his part, Mr. Alfred F. Kelly Jr, Chief Executive Officer of Visa Inc., expressed his sincere thanks to the SBV for supporting Visa Inc. operations in Vietnam over the past time, and hoped to enhance the comprehensive cooperation with the SBV and Visa’s partners to promote e-payment in Vietnam. He said that Vietnam is a dynamic economy with a rapid growth rate, young population and a large number of internet users. These are favorable conditions for developing e-payment in Vietnam and also for Visa Inc. and its partners to enhance their cooperation with a view to bringing benefits and facilities to their customers.
At the meeting, the SBV Governor and the General Director of Visa Inc. also exchanged their views about various issues regarding ensuring a prudent payment system, developing digital services, supporting financial inclusion, formulating legal frameworks for e-payment and e-commerce, etc.
