On July 9th, 2019 in Hanoi, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) in cooperation with the Bank of Korea (BOK) co-hosted the Kick–off Seminar to launch the Bank of Korea Knowledge Partnership Program (BOK-KPP) in 2019.
Attending the Seminar were representatives from the SBV’s International Cooperation Department, the Monetary & Financial Stabilization Department, as well as representatives of the BOK-KPP (Korea), representatives of the BOK and professors from the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP)…
BOK-KPP is a program of technical assistance and knowledge sharing that the BOK implements with a number of central banks, and monetary and banking management agencies in the region.
Since 2016, the SBV and the BOK have agreed to implement the Program in the form of selecting a Korean research institution to develop advisory reports on specific topics proposed by the SBV. For 2019, based on the approval of the SBV Board of Management, the two sides have agreed to develop an advisory report on the theme “Developing a systemic risk monitoring process at the State Bank of Vietnam ".
Overview of Siminar
In his opening remarks, Mr. To Huy Vu - Director General of the International Cooperation Department - emphasized that according to the assessments from the beneficiaries within the SBV, over 3 years implementing the new model,the BOK-KPP program has proven to be one of the most useful cooperation programs between the two central banks, having met the requirements of the units through the advisory reports which have been prepared and developed meticulously and thoroughly, pointing out the shortcomings in Vietnam, as well as introducing the lessons of practical value of Korea to resolve the issues that the SBV is attending to or giving high priority to. Thereby, the Program has made very useful recommendations for the SBV.
At the Seminar, Professor Sungbae An - KIEP Project Consulting Director - presented the Program Kick-off Report; while Professor TaeSoo Kang - Former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea - made a presentation on "Report on Korean financial stabilization". In the afternoon of the same day, the two sides continued with a technical level meeting to develop the next advisory report.
